Activities

The main activities are:
1. exchange of ideas, particularly through workshops, regarding key national and regional environmental priorities and professional training priorities

2. installation of video-conferencing facilities at partner universities in Cambodia and Lao PDR

3. establishment of an action website and maintenance throughout the duration of the action

4. review of environmental priorities and human resource development priorities for target groups of environmental professionals in Cambodia and Lao PDR

5. training of personnel, after suitable language preparation, through 6 months or 12 months secondments/research training to EU partner universities; these placements will be designed to be utilisable as credits for the completion of PhD programmes beyond the timeframe of the action

6. design and provision of short courses relevant to the Cambodian and Laotian context, particularly in:
a. techniques of environmental monitoring, modelling remediation; depending upon the outcome of activity (i), these may focus on one or more of: pesticides, deforestation, arsenic and other geogenic contaminants in well waters; ensuring the safety of rural and urban water supplies;
b. efficient computerised (including Web-based) training technologies;
c. development of effective and sustainable linkages between universities, NGOs and local, national and regional business;

7. provision of laboratory and field equipment necessary for on site training in Cambodia and Lao PDR for sampling, preparation, analysis and proper disposal of environmental media

8. proactively seeking further co-financing beyond the timeframe of the action for PhD level of training;

9. networking with other actions and organisations (e.g. AquaTRAIN, E2M, BRIDGE) to enable strategic coordination of activities;

10. discussions between EU and ASEAN partners to encourage further development beyond the timeframe of the action

11. dissemination of best practice and review and research results through Web-based, other electronic media, published reports and papers and conference presentations.
