Objectives and Expected Results

The overall objective of the action is to empower Cambodian and Lao PDR environmental professionals to protect the environment and minimise environmental risks to human health in Cambodia within the framework of substantive sustainable development.
The specific objective of the action is Human Resource Development:. to develop research and training expertise, including in self-learning, e-learning and funding acquisition skills, of present and potential future environmental teaching staff and other environmental professionals in Cambodia and Lao PDR.

Expected results include: (i) 6 man-years of PhD/MSc level research and teaching training for young environmental academics; (ii) continued professional development for several tens of environmental professionals;.(iii) more rapid development of environmental curricula; and the foundations for, within 3 years of the end of the action, of (iv) the first national award of PhDs for Cambodian and Lao PDR environmental scientists; (v) national training of several tens of environmental scientists actively inputting advice to local, regional and national governments concerned with environmental protection in the context of substantive and necessary economic development.
