Research Interests: Applied Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geostatistic and Remote Sensing (RS) for Environmental Science.
After graduating with a BSc in Environmental Science from the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP), Pheaktra worked for the Environmental Impact Assessment Company (EIA) as member of a research team, focusing on research design and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). He soon became interested in applied GIS, Geostatistic and Remote Sensing (RS).
In early 2007 Pheaktra was selected to work as a contracted research assistant at RUPP on the Phnom Penh Sewer Modeling and Contaminant Loads Estimation project. In 2008 he became involved with the European Commission Asia-Link CALIBRE Project, beginning a series of training activities with particular emphasis on environmental issues in Cambodia and Laos, lab skills at the Resource Development Institute Cambodia (RDIC), including drinking water quality analysis, and participation in the English Training Course at the University of Manchester Language Center (ULC).
Pheaktra’s other knowledge and experience includes work as researcher and cartographer for a number of organizations, such as Khmer Youth and Social Development and the Green Environment Group Co., professional environmental and social impact assessment training, applied research statistics and programming skills, including C++, and R language.
After graduating with an MSc from the University of Manchester as part of his work on the CALIBRE Project, Pheaktra hopes to return to RUPP to apply his expertise to research, training and teaching.
